The Cradle of the Renaissance
Overview
Florence, the heart of Tuscany, is a city that breathes art, history, and romance. Known as the birthplace of the Renaissance, where cobblestone streets lead to awe-inspiring cathedrals, and every corner tells a story of artistic genius. The Arno River gently winds through the city, reflecting the warm hues of terracotta rooftops and the iconic silhouette of the Duomo. Florentines are proud of their rich heritage, and their passion for life is evident in the vibrant piazzas and bustling markets.
Top Highlights & Attractions
I’ve been to Florence 4 or 5 times and I’ve enjoyed each visit. It’s a magnificent city with no shortage of sights to explore.
- The Duomo: Marvel at the stunning Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, with its magnificent dome designed by Brunelleschi. Entrance to the Cathedral is free, but tickets are required to climb the dome and bell tower, as well as to visit the Baptistry, Museum and Santa Reparata. I recommend purchasing tickets directly from the official site. Let me know if you need help!
- Uffizi Gallery: Home to masterpieces by Botticelli, Michelangelo, and Leonardo da Vinci, this gallery is a must-visit for art lovers. I recommend this self-guided tour or this guided tour, depending on your preference.
- Accademia Gallery: Stand in awe before Michelangelo’s statue of David and discover the master’s unfinished works in the Hall of Prisoners.
- Ponte Vecchio: This medieval stone bridge is lined with charming jewelry shops and offers picturesque views of the Arno River.
- Palazzo Vecchio: Explore the historic town hall, a symbol of Florence’s political power and artistic heritage.
- Boboli Gardens: Wander through these beautifully landscaped gardens, offering a peaceful escape and stunning views of the city.
- Piazzale Michelangelo: My favorite panoramic views of the city, especially at sunset.
