Roam beyond Rome! See more with these 7 day trips

Explore more, stress less

If you are looking for a hassle-free yet flexible Italian vacation, or if you want to minimize hotel hopping without sacrificing exploration, this post is for you!

From Rome, you can reach these seven stunning cities in less than two hours.  Base your stay in the Eternal City, but plan a few day trips to enjoy a slower pace in a smaller village.  You won’t need to rent a car, navigate the bus system or stress over multiple rail connections as each of these destinations are accessible via a direct train from Rome.

Swipe to see all seven destinations!

  1. Viterbo (2 hours) – Here you will find an authentic Italian experience away from the tourist crowds of Rome. Visit the Palazzo dei Papi, an elegant palace which was the seat of the popes in the 13th century.

  2. Orvieto (1 hour and 15 mins) – A must see! This hill top town is rich in history, art and food. Additionally, it hosts a robust underground maze of tunnels and caves, open for exploration.

  3. Assisi (2 hours) – A midieval hill town in the Umbria region and birth place of St. Francis of Assisi. Be sure to see the Basillica!

  4. Santa Marinella (1 hour and 30 mins) – Relax at the beach and liesurely explore the Santa Severa Castle.

  5. Spoleto (1 hour and 40 mins) – Nestled among olive groves and vineyards, this ancient city is simply gorgeous! Also a must-see if you’re an art enthusiast.

  6. Naples (1 hour and 10 mins) – A city which needs no introduction (where are my pizza lovers?) From here, you can also explore Pompeii.

  7. Florence (1 hour and 30 mins) – Okay, the “cradle of the renaissance” really deserves more than one day, but you can see the highlights if a day is all you have.  Alternatively, you can pack your bags and easily transition to a second hotel after your time in Rome.
